Winning Blackjack for the Serious Player edition by Edwin Silberstang Humor Entertainment eBooks Reviews
I have been buying up blackjack books to pursue my hobby and get better and I think this is definitely a good first book. this book teaches only the Hi-Lo count but that is the most common if you are training yourself for multi-deck, it is weak for single deck. What I like about this book is it has basic strategy charts per location and every location, I did not know that the basic strategy for Atlantic City was different than the Connecticut casionoes, which is different from Vegas, which is different from Reno, it has the basic strategy charts for single and multi deck.
In some of the other basic strategy charts I have in my other books I will say they are General and do not get into the details per casino, so you might be learning a basic strategy chart that is not tailored to Reno or AC, I have about a dozen blackjack books and this is the one I recommend as your first one.
Winning Blackjack for the serious player is for the at best the very recreational serious player. Meaning, if you are really only planning on going to a casino once a year for a few hours, this book can be pretty good for you. This book does go from the basic nuts and bolts of blackjack up to light card counting theory. As well as talking about dealing with dealers, pit personel and various other topics related to playing live blackjack.
The issue I have with the book is that the "serious" player might be more ready for a little more discussion about advanced play, or counting in as much as getting into why counting works in depth. There are whole books related to counting of course, but since he decided to talk about counting he should have backed up his theory with some mathematical proof. If you are interested in counting you have to engage in mathematical discussion at some point.
If you want to know basic strategy, and some light counting then this is a good book for you. Really there is not a whole lot of new stuff in this book so if you have already read a few books on blackjack and you know what counting is there will be nothing new for you here. If you don't know basic strategy, don't know counting but want to know, this book could be pretty good for you, you'll be able to know perhaps where to move onto for further blackjack education.
Another person this book might be good to have on the shelf is someone who really is already pretty deep into blackjack, but might be inclined to go to the casino with a layman to blackjack. They could hand them this book as a primer to help get them quickly up to speed with how you really play blackjack to win money so you wouldn't have to start from square one with your friends or family.
Conclusion, not a bad book for the beginning serious player. Not a good book for anyone who already knows basic strategy and already knows the basics of counting.
Seriously, just all round great book!
BEST BOOK I EVER READ ABOUT POKER. WELL, I HAVE NEVER OWN ANOTHER ONE ABOUT POKER(LAUGHS). BUT I'M VERY SATISFIED WITH THE BOOK
Borrowed the book from the library and wanted to own my own, so I went on and found it. I'm very satisfied.
Good Information if you read it carefully
Well written.....to the point being very informative
